Come and join our Community Panel

Ballarat City Council is currently running a community engagement process called Ballarat: Our Future. As part of this process, we invite you to be part of a community panel to represent the community and to help shape our new medium and long-term plans for our City. These include the Community Vision, Council Plan, Financial Plan and Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan.

This is your opportunity to shape our community’s future and guide the work of Council over the coming years. Council is committed to hearing the panel’s recommendations directly from them and considering those recommendations in the development of the new plans.

Why would I participate?

We all want to live in a community where we can enjoy the best possible quality of life. That will look different from one person to the next. What does the future Ballarat look like in order for you, your family and friends to be happy and healthy?

Panel members will work together to develop an agreed view on how the City of Ballarat should grow and change in the future and identify shorter-term priorities to help us to get there.

When will the community panel meet?

The panel will meet over three days, and participants will need to be available on all three days. An independent specialist will facilitate the panel.

We’re looking for 45 people aged 18 years and over to put up their hand to be involved.

Participants will receive an honorarium payment of $200 at the end of the process to recognise their time and commitment.

Panel meetings will be conducted in a COVID‐safe way, in line with the restrictions of the day. Tasty meals and refreshments will be provided at meetings.

Wednesday 21 April 2021, 6.30pm-8.30pm – Introduction

Saturday 24 April 2021, 12pm-5.00pm – Session 1

Saturday 1 May 2021, 12pm-5.00pm – Session 2

Who can be on the community panel?

You or anyone in your household over the age of 18 can register to be part of the panel. We are seeking adults of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to represent the community. Please note that Councillors and staff members at the Ballarat City Council are not eligible to participate.

How can I register my interest?

Recruitment to the panel is being handled independently of Council by Deliberately Engaging.

Registrations close midnight, Sunday March 28, 2021.

Requests for assistance to support participation will be reviewed on a case‐by‐case basis for panel members (for example: transport, child care and interpreter services).
